Carlton was constantly putting pressure on herself that she needed to write “Untainted” faster and better. She’d look at her first book and wonder how she ever put any of it together. “Untainted” took a lot more out of her than her first book, “Hollow”. The concept, the plot, and the violence all sucked her in, showing her the scarier side of aliens and the impact something like that would have on society. The remake of War of the Worlds also helped shape her perspective of science fiction. It taught her just how diverse and creative science fiction truly is. She was introduced to science fiction by a television series called Farscape. It’s early morning and New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Steena Holmes is at her kitchen table drinking coffee and talking about her latest novel THE FORGOTTEN ONES, the haunting story of Elle and what she is compelled to do when she receives a deathbed request from her grandfather, a man racked by grief, regrets, and a dark secret. He half- imagined an Inspector bringing a magnifying glass to his ear, proclaiming him unclean. Shut up, Warren thought now, Gordon so close. Guilt, yes, for how they were raising these boys. But really, there was no hiding it, as the source operated above him in the many floors of the Turret, day in, day out. He could hardly admit to himself what it was for. In his book “Tree of Hate: Propaganda and Prejudices Affecting United States Relations with the Hispanic World,” the late historian Philip Wayne Powell describes the “La Leyenda Negra” as “the accumulation of anti-Spanish prejudices, propagandas, hatreds, and denigratory half-truths arising out of Spain’s long stay at the European summit in military, dynastic, religious, and economic affairs all enhanced by the much-envied wealth and prestige of vast overseas possessions.” Family Tree Detective: Tracing Your Ancestors in England and WalesColin D.
